GUIDE TO DIFFERENT CPAP MACHINES: REMSTAR, RESMED, AND RESPIRONICS
Below are what some consider to be the Cadillac of CPAP machines the Remstar, Resmed CPAP, and Resironics. After reading below I think you will see why as a former Respiratory Home Care Therapist I feel this way.
1. REMstar Auto A-Flex
THE REMstar Auto A-Flex is CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) device is designed for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It can deliver CPAP therapy or Auto-CPAP Therapy. This machine has a ramp function to make it easier to fall asleep as the pressure gradually increased to your prescribed setting. You can also set the Remstar to not use this feature at all. You buy or order through your home care provider any accessories not included with your Remstar. Your home care practitioner will go over the Remstar device features.
Remstar delivers the following available therapies:
- CPAP – This delivers continuous pressure throughout the entire breathing cycle.
The rest of the available therapies below using the Remstar are used to increase the patient’s comfort level. They are also based on patient’s needs with the use of the Remstar.
- CPAP with C-Flex – Delivers the CPAP pressure with relief upon exhalation.
- CPAP with C-Flex+ – Delivers the CPAP pressure with relief at the end of inhalation and at the start of exhalation.
- Auto-CPAP – Delivers the CPAP while automatically adjusting the pressure level to meet the patient needs.
- Auto-CPAP with C-Flex – Delivers Auto-CPAP therapy with pressure relief upon exhalation.
- Auto-CPAP with A-Flex – Delivers Auto-CPAP therapy with pressure relief taken at the end of inhalation and at the start of exhalation.
2. Resmed CPAP
Resmed s9 auto set is Resmed’s premium auto-adjusting device as result the Resmed s9 autoset helps to increase patient’s comfort. It responds to flow limitation and adjusts breath to breath to deliver the lowest therapeutic pressure needed. The Resmed s9 autoset also has wireless and card to card for quick access to compliance data anywhere with an internet connection.
It is also worth mentioning the Resmed s9 autoset features central sleep apnea (CSA) detection, which differentiates between obstructive and central apneas. You can also get a humidifier with Climate Control maintaining idea humidification and temperature settings to help reduce rainout and minimize side effects such as dry throat or mouth.
The Resmed VPAP S provides Bilevel pressure support therapy for patients with respiratory insufficiency and/or obstructive sleep apnoea.
The S9 VPAP Auto Auto-Bi Level machine adjusts therapy levels on both inhalation and exhalation.

Respironics carries therapy devices for many conditions such as for:
Neuromuscular Disorders – BiPAP AVAPS
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) – BiPAP S/T
Restrictive Disorders – BiPAP AVAPS
OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) – CPAP, AUTO-CPAP, BIPAP S: BiPAP AUTO
PERIODIC BREATHING – BiPAP autoSV
OBESITY HYPOVENTILATION – BiPAP S: BiPAP AVAPS
COMPLEX SDB – BiPAP auto SV
To sum this up there is a lot of great technology to help with hypopnea a medical term for a disorder involving shallow breathing rate and an abnormally low respiratory rate.
